Soil and Dirt Waste

SOIL AND DIRT WASTE SKIPS AVAILABLE FOR DELIVERY STRAIGHT TO YOUR DOOR.

What is soil and dirt waste?

We regularly receive enquiries about whether soil can be disposed of in a skip bin. Most commonly, those who operate in the construction and landscaping industries will have a need to dispose of soil from the excavation works completed. Soil is naturally a by-product of these activities and in some circumstances, it can be leftover and needs to be disposed of.

The following items can be disposed of in a soil and dirt waste skip bin:

  • Soil

  • Dirt

  • Clay

  • We do not accept fibro, asbestos, tins of paint, car tyres, food waste, tree stumps, mattresses, synthetic grass, or chemicals.

How do we recycle your soil waste?

Soil itself may not be waste if it has a current use or value – for example as fill for retaining walls. Soil that is no longer required can become waste if it is left on-site and has no other use or purpose. We recycle dirt and clay so as to avoid it ending up in landfill.

When booking your skip please let us know if the soil has come from clean sources such as private excavation and landscaping jobs. We need to know if there is a possibility of contaminants and dust in the soil. Soil from these sources must also be free of all plant material, lawn clippings, weeds etc. If you have multiple materials needing disposal a mixed waste skip bin would be more ideal.

Contaminated Soil

Soil waste can be contaminated by a number of things. Soil is naturally sticky, which makes it difficult to separate the dirt from other elements like mud and brick fragments. Soil contains other things within its structure such as pieces of broken tiles, stones or glass fragments that are not easily visible. Soil may also have been in contact with contaminations such as paint, solvents, and oil.

How much soil can you put in a skip?

To recycle your soil waste and to minimize the number of skips needed, it is best to hire a large-sized skip. It can be very difficult to properly estimate the size of skip you will need for soil removal and if you are unsure we recommend always going one size up to save the need to hire an extra bin should your smaller bin not be fit for purpose.
